Large fallen tree in Paso Robles creates power outage
Several power lines damaged, power outages, no injuries
– Paso Robles residents awoke Sunday morning to the sign of their large backyard tree about to fall, then watched it fall and crash into power lines shortly after. The tree was located in the backyard of a home located between 18th and 19th streets near Spring street. The tree fell in an alley way behind the house around 9:30 a.m.
“Around 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning I noticed the tree was starting to lean,” said Penick. “I noticed my neighbor’s car was parked in the tree’s path and advised them to move it. Then, around 9:30 a.m. I saw the tree start to come down. When it first fell it was leaning on the power lines, then eventually snapped the power lines and brought down the pole along with my fence. Thankfully, no one was injured.” Penick estimates the tree fell due to over saturation from recent storms.
Residents as far as 24th street reported hearing the tree fall just before their power went out. Smart and Final reportedly lost power and used dry ice to maintain the items in the frozen section of the store.
PG&E had crews on the scene by 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon and worked through the night, and the storm, to break down the tree, replace several power lines and restore power back to the community.
“PG&E has been really great throughout this whole experience. We really appreciate their efforts,” said Penick.
Power outages caused by falling trees were reported all over the county this weekend, click here for more information.
