Letter: Forum coverage skirted anti-war platform

To the editor,Submit news of Letter to the editor

In coverage of last Friday’s US Congressional candidates forum in Atascadero, the Paso Robles and A-Town Daily News made no mention of the central theme of my platform, namely opposition to continuing US wars and military interventions. That our country has been at war for 15 years must surely concern everyone. We’ve squandered $6 trillion fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq alone, with nothing to show except more enemies and badly traumatized and demoralized veterans. This must not continue.

The Republican/Democrat two-party establishment represents not us, but the interests of corporations, global banks, and foreign governments. Political discourse is reduced to forced choices between extreme positions that divide Americans against each other to prevent them from uniting to challenge the oppressive status quo.

I’m running for Congress in the June 7 primary to let people in Paso Robles and Atascadero fight back and assert themselves. As an independent, antiwar candidate, every vote for me is a slap in the face of the two-party status quo, and advances the cause of peace.

Also unreported were my remarks that the key to the health care crisis is to devote more attention to preventing disease. Prevention today is ignored because there is more profit in expensive, invasive and costly treatments.

I encourage readers to visit my campaign website john-uebersax.com/2016 for more information.
