Level 2 watering restrictions in effect
Conservation department reminds customers to limit water usage
The City of Paso Robles Water Conservation department issued a reminder to customers that outdoor watering restrictions will be in effect from May 1 through Sept. 30, 2014 due to record-setting drought conditions this year. Irrigation is limited to three days per week or less on scheduled days for set areas with a limit run time for sprinklers to 12 minutes or less. The department also stated that the cooperation of all customers in reducing water use is needed to avoid water shortages this summer.
According to information on the city website, a Level 2 condition means that a 20 percent reduction in overall city water demand is needed to ensure adequate water supplies are available to meet anticipated summer water demands. the June-Sept. outdoor water restrictions dates are mandatory; watering schedule restrictions are voluntary from Oct. 1 through April 30.
Watering zones & days
- Zone 1 — North of 13th St., Creston, Sherwood, and Linne: water Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
- Zone 2 — South of 13th St., Creston, Sherwood, and Linne: water Wednesday, Friday, Sunday.
- No watering on Monday
- No watering between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Other water use restrictions include:
- Prohibition on excessive water runoff
- Car washing allowed only with a bucket and hose shutoff nozzle
- Prohibition on washing down paved surfaces, except under certain conditions
Tips for reducing irrigation use
- Check and repair broken sprinklers and drip lines
- Raise and straighten low or tilted heads that misdirect spray
- Trim bushes that prevent spray from reaching its target
- Set mower height to 3-4″ — longer turf uses less water
- Apply a balanced fertilizer; more water won ‘t green your lawn if it lacks nutrients
- Avoid runoff on slopes by using multiple short run times
