Lions Club honors Bearcat student athletes

Award recipients chosen by teammates for leadership, teamwork and work ethic

The Paso Robles Lions Club honored 17 Paso Robles High School athletes during the Winter Sportsmanship Awards ceremony. The ceremony, held Tuesday night at the Paso Robles Elks Club, was attended by Lion’s Club members, the athletes and their families and coaches. The recipients are selected by their team mates based on attributes such as leadership, teamwork, and work ethic.

The Lions Club has been presenting sportsmanship awards to high school athletes since 1946. The ceremony is held three times a year in January, March and May for each sport season.

The Sportsman Patches were presented to each athlete by nine year old Kyle Dart.

The Sportsman Patches were presented to each athlete by nine year old Kyle Dart who attends Winifred Pifer Elementary School. “Kyle is our youngest Leo,” said Lions Club member Jodi Tellier. The Paso Robles High School Leos Club is a youth community service group that works on projects with the Lions Club. Projects include adopting a street or hiking trail, holiday bell ringing for the Salvation Army, making jewelry for silent auctions, and collecting used eyeglasses for recycling.
