Throughout the the month of February, several local dentists volunteered their time to screen elementary students for dental abnormalities or decay. Many students were screened throughout the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District. The district issued a press release thanking the participating dentists.

The screenings are done to help identify conditions that might need further assessment and treatment. Treatment for dental problems can improve a child’s overall health and well-being. Studies show that screening and motivation significantly improve the percentage of school children who seek dental care.

The parents of all students who were screened will be informed of the dentist’s findings. Referrals are made by district health staff to ensure that students with obvious acute dental needs are treated promptly.
