–Paso Robles resident Tina Mace, a personal trainer at Kennedy Club Fitness won first place in three contests at Jon Lindsay’s Muscles Contest in Culver City, Calif. at the Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium on Oct. 17. She took first in masters figure 40-years-old-plus, masters figure 35-years-old-plus and overall, and women’s open physique. She got three first-place trophies and a sword for her overall award.

“I did not think I’d pull off but I did,” Mace said.

The physique competition was done barefoot and is a feminine version of men’s body building. This one, Mace said, is a lightweight body building contest where women pose with their hands open rather than balled fists. “It’s with grace and femininity,” she said. She posed to Elle King’s song “Ex’s and Oh’s.” The figure competitions are done in heels and women do four different poses.

The contest drew competitors from around the world. Mace herself competed against, and beat, a former Ms. Olympia from Mexico, which was a national professional bodybuilding title held annually by the International Federation of BodyBuilders in conjunction with the Mr. Olympia contest.

“I’ve never beat anyone who won Olympia before,” said Mace, who said that was one of the highlights of the competition for her.

Mace has a Masters of Science in holistic health and nutrition education and a Bachelors of Science in health science, health educator. She’s a specialist in physical fitness, corrective exercise and fitness nutrition. Her specialties are corrective exercise assessments and program design, weight training, nutrition education, and competitive figure and bodybuilding training.

She started working for Kennedy Club Fitness when she and her family moved to Paso Robles four years ago. Her husband took a job in the military at Fort Hunter Liggett. Mace has been a personal trainer for 23 years, since she was 19-years-old.

Two of her clients, Lorena Schultz and Jessica Webster, also competed in the bikini competition at the muscle contest over the weekend. Schultz placed fourth and Webster seventh. “It was [Jessica’s] first show ever,” Mace said. “She has three children and she lost close to 35 pounds to compete in this show. She was a crowd-pleaser.”
