Lowe’s program helps build new shade house at PRHS
– The Lowe’s Heroes volunteer program selected Paso Robles High School to receive materials and labor– an estimated value of about $4,000– to complete a remodel of the school’s shade house, according to a report from the school district. Volunteers from the local Lowe’s, students and staff at PRHS, along with community members worked this past week to complete the project.
The shade house will be used in the PRHS environmental horticulture and floral design classes. With this new structure, the students will be able to experience outdoor learning. Over 80 students worked on the project which included installation of new doors and shade cloth around the exterior, removal of the old weed barrier and gravel, staining and painting all of the wood, and building potting tables.
“It was a collaboration of our agriculture students, leadership, and studio art classes. It was a great opportunity for our students to get involved in a community project and take ownership of their learning,” said Erin Haley, deputy principal at PRHS.
