accident on highway 101A Greenfield man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving without a license under the influence of a controlled substance after a three-car accident on Highway 101 in Templeton.

Luis Alberto Herrera, 25, was driving south on Highway 101 near Las Tablas Road at speeds of more than 100 mph at about 12:45 in the afternoon, the CHP reports.

While attempting to pass along the right shoulder of the road, the suspect lost control of his 1994 Honda Accord, the report says. His car swerved back across both lanes of southbound traffic crashing into a 2006 Honda Accord and a 2003 Mitsubishi, the report says.

The suspect’s car smashed into the center median and spun clockwise before stopping in the southbound fast lane. Following the accident, the Herrera climbed out of his car and fled on foot, running across northbound lanes of traffic. He was captured shortly later on Vineyard Drive.

The suspect and his passenger, a 65-year-old man from San Luis Obispo, were taken to Twin Cities Community Hospital for minor injuries, the reports says. The two other drivers were not injured.
