Man arrested after two children killed in Hwy. 1 accident 

accident on highwayThe California Highway Patrol reports two children were killed and one man was arrested after a single-vehicle accident on Highway 1 north of Cayucos on Saturday after 4 p.m.

The horrific accident closed Highway 1 for about an hour while a helicopter and four ambulances transported the injured to local hospitals.

The CHP report says Tanner Mengore, 22, of Morro Bay, was driving over the speed limit, swerved, lost control of his vehicle, and rolled his Chevy Avalanche.

Three passengers were ejected from the truck: A 17-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy died from their injuries, a 19-year-old woman suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Another passenger, a 23-year-old male, was taken to a hospital with major injuries.

The driver, Mengore, was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and then arrested for suspicion of felony DUI and manslaughter. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
