Man gets 15 years to life in prison for deadly Hwy 46 crash 

A Bakersfield man was sentenced in San Luis Obispo Superior Court to 15 years to life in prison for causing a deadly accident on Highway 46 East 

Jerad Cross, 32, was sentenced this week for causing the death of Clovis resident Richard Gamez, 45, on Nov. 7, 2012. Cross was a driving a truck on Highway 46 near Whitley Gardens when he crashed into Gamez’s truck, which was stopped behind a semi at a construction site. Cross was under the influence of prescription drugs at the time of the accident.

Inside Cross’ vehicle, authorities discovered prescription drugs and related paraphernalia, police testified. The stash included pill crushers, razor blades and spoons.
