Mystic Hills Vineyard wins at New York International Wine Competition
Awarded USA Individual Awards; Monterey Winery of the Year 2016 and Paso Robles Dry Red Blend Producer of the Year
–Mystic Hills Vineyard in San Miguel received two USA Individual Awards recently at the New York International Wine Competition, the Monterey Winery of the Year 2016 and Paso Robles Dry Red Blend Producer of the Year. During the competition they also received a gold medal for their 2012 Unforgiven, a silver medal for 2014 H.E.A.R.T.S. Rosé, and a bronze medal for 2012 Gran Trio, all Bordeaux wine blends.
The vineyard is family owned by Judy and Joel Cox, an Oscar-winning film editor for more than 40 years, who has worked with Director Clint Eastwood. Winemaking is overseen by Keith Roberts and the Cox family. The winery is only in its second year of public release and currently have four Bordeaux varietals released, with a fifth, a reserve malbec, due later this year.
The winery also received a platinum for their 2012 Unforgiven (94 points), gold for their 2012 Gran Trio, and silver for the 2014 H.E.A.R.T.S. Rosé at the 2016 San Diego International Wine Challenge. And awarded the Best of Class, gold medal 2011 Unforgiven (91 points), bronze medals for 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2012 Gran Trio at the Los Angeles International Wine Competition.
Wine columnist and Director of the San Diego competition Robert Whitley said the wines are made in a typical style for California’s Central Coast. “The 2012 Unforgiven is ripe and juicy, with layers of black fruit and a touch of oak vanillin,” he said. “It’s a crowd-pleaser that can be consumed even at this early stage of its evolution. A platinum award-winner at the San Diego International Wine Challenge.”
