The National Stock Horse Association is hosting its annual Futurity & Worlds Richest this weekend at the Paso Robles Event Center. Events began on Monday and will wrap up Sunday. Show Manager Tanna Dilday said that the show draw 500 owners and riders from California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Nevada and Idaho.

“For some of the horses this is their very first show they’ve been in,” Dilday said.

The final day will wrap up with Youth Limited, Youth Bridle, Cow Work Open Futurity and Cow Work Non Pro Futurity, starting at 8 a.m. Those events follow Run By Practice Pen from 5 to 9:30 a.m. and Cowboy Church at 7 a.m.

Dilday said the highlights of the entire event are the World’s Richest Stock Horse, which happened on Saturday evening, and the Futurity finals on Sunday. The World’s Richest Stock Horse competition is for the older horses with what Dilday said are probably the best riders in the industry. The total purse for the World’s Richest Stock Horse is $15,500.

The event is in its 10th year, with it being the seventh year in Paso Robles. Events go to about 8 or 9 p.m. and free and open to the public. There is a trade show that is also open to the public.
