– Who are the heroes in your neighborhood? That’s just what local children and families set out to discover on Tuesday afternoon as they joined in on Paso Robles Library’s celebration of community heroes.

With 11th Street between Spring and Park streets transformed into a full-blown hero expo, a large crowd of children, along with several adults, got to climb inside of a police car, a fire engine, a vintage fire truck, historic military vehicles and more. Representatives from the Paso Robles Children’s Museum, the Paso Robles Police Department, SLO Ambulance, Pacific Wildlife, California Highway Patrol, Estrella Warbirds Museum, Camp Roberts, and other local and county agencies helped ensure a successful afternoon.

“We had a really great group of people that showed up to make this possible,” said Children’s Services Librarian Heather Stephenson. “It was wonderful to see everyone interacting, sharing information, and answering questions for all of these families.”

Pat Butler Elementary student Juan Lopez, 7, said, “This was so much fun…I liked the police dogs the best.” Two service dogs and their trainers – one from the Paso Robles Police Department’s K-9 unit and the other from State Parks – wowed the crowd with their skills.

“We had a good turnout from children and families that we see at some of the other programs we offer at the library,” said Stephenson. “We also met some new families that stopped by after they visited the Farmer’s Market in the park, so that was nice.”

The Paso Robles City Library is located at 1000 Spring St. and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on library programs and events, call (805) 237-3870 or see www.prcity.com/library.
