New $3 million MRI installed in Templeton

MRI being installed by crane today.

Dec. 18, 2012 – Templeton Imaging is installing the first 3T MRI System in the North County. The $3 million purchase opens the door to the most advanced clinical applications available today.

The company acquired a Siemens Medical Solutions MAGNETOM Trio™ magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system with Tim™ (Total imaging matrix) technology. It is being installed today . Templeton Imaging is a San Luis Obispo County’s leader in image technology and member of Twin Cities Community Hospital’s family of services.

The only one of its kind in North County, the MRI system will offer unmatched speed, advanced image detail, scanning flexibility and power, and is the first system capable of 3 Tesla (3T) whole-body MRI available with Tim™. The combination of 3T field strength and Tim™ not only increases image resolution, but provides improved patient comfort.

“The delivery of the new Templeton Imaging 3T Magnet on December 18th is an early New Year’s gift to the North County community we serve,” says Twin Cities Community Hospital CEO Mark Lisa. “With the most capable magnet in the North County for MR studies, this high-field unit is an example of the highly advanced technology we provide the patients of Twin Cities Community Hospital’s family of services.”

Templeton Imaging Director of Diagnostic Imaging Outpatient Services Diana Frees adds, “The MAGNETOM Trio with Tim™ will propel the applications of 3T technology, creating a new level of excellence in imaging the entire body. This system will not only provide our clinicians with the highest quality MRI capabilities, potentially allowing us to detect and diagnose disease states earlier, but offer the best possible medical care to our patients.”

About MAGNETOM Trio™ Powered by Tim™
Suited for clinical and research MRI of all organs and body regions, the MAGNETOM Trio™ with Tim™ opens new doors to applications, including abdominal, cardiac, spine, whole-body and orthopedic MRI at 3T. Offering iPAT (integrated Parallel Acquisition Techniques), the industry’s only complete high-speed Parallel Imaging package, MAGNETOM Trio™ with Tim™ is the first generation of 3T whole-body systems that addresses potential challenges common with other 3T systems, but without image quality compromises. Tim™ is the first seamless, mosaic surface coil design that combines 102 seamlessly integrated coil elements with up to 32 independent receiver channels, opening the door to the most advanced clinical applications available today. Tim™ technology enables flexible coil combinations to encompass local high resolution imaging to large anatomical coverage up to 181 cm (6’0”), while other systems require the technologist to change coils and reposition the patient three times for a whole body MRI procedure. As a result of Tim™, image quality is increased by up to 100 percent by a higher signal-to-noise ratio* (SNR), and acquisition times are shortened.
