– Downtown Paso Robles will be getting a new juicery this fall. Roots Juicery & Cafe will open at 1226 Park St. in October. The juicery was the brainchild of 20-year-old Vanessa Mariscal, who is opening the business with her parents, Rafael and Alejandra Mariscal.

“We came up with the idea to open up Roots Juicery & Cafe because my family loves to make fresh juices at home,” Vanessa said. “We have each felt and seen the benefits that it can bring to one’s health.”

Vanessa said that she used to feel sluggish around mid-day and constantly have a headache. Though doctors told her nothing was wrong with her, her family bought a juicer and started making all kinds of juices.

“After some time I started to feel more like what a 20-year-old should feel like,” Vanessa said. “I have my energy back and I no longer have headaches. It’s been a great change for me. We decided we wanted to open a juicery in Paso Robles so that others could come by and feel the benefits too.”

The business will provide fresh-pressed juicers to people who don’t have the time or energy to make the juices at home. “It’s hard to be on the go, rushed for time and make a juice as it takes quite some time to prep the vegetables: washing, cutting; and then cleaning the juicer afterwards,” Vanessa said.

The juicery and cafe will be open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to juices, it will serve healthy meals and smaller acai bowls. There will also be free WiFi for those that may want to stay a little longer. Downtown employees will receive a discount card and Cuesta College students will get a discount with their student IDs.

Vanessa has lived in Paso Robles her entire life and her parents have been there for more than 35 years. Rafael was previously a chef at Black Oak Restaurant when it was still open in Paso Robles. Now, he attends Cuesta College where he is pursuing an AA degree in family studies with a certificate in drug addiction counseling because he wants to counsel youth who many be struggling with addiction. Vanessa is currently attending Cuesta College as well. She is finishing up her last year there and will then transfer to Cal Poly where she will study biology with plans to go into medical research.

“We aim to open a friendly and fun place for everyone to come by and feel like they are apart of the family and get a tasty treat that will not only taste good but make them feel good too,” Vanessa said.

Another juicery, Organic Farms Juice, opened last year on Railroad Street, then relocated in December to 12th Street, inside Spa Central Coast. As of this summer, Organic Farms Juice was closed.
