Nickerson Drive closed due to gas leak

Nickerson Drive between Creston Road and Bolen Drive was closed Tuesday afternoon due to a natural gas line leak, police report.
Paso Robles Police Lt. Tim Murphy said a resident accidentally caused the leak while doing some front yard work. He said the leak began at about 1:30 p.m. The Gas Company was dispatched to make repairs and arrived around 3 p.m..
By 3:20 p.m. crews were digging up the roadway in front of a house on the east side of Nickerson Drive while Paso Robles firefighters stood watch. By evening the crews had wrapped up their work.
The Paso Robles Police Department issued a text alert Tuesday at 2:28 p.m. warning drivers to avoid Nickerson Drive. The route is the main access way to Centennial Park.
The California Gas Company dispatched a repair vehicle to the scene of the gas leak.
