Update: One person killed in Highway 58 crash

A 69-year-old man from Creston was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 58 at Huer Huero Road on Friday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol reports. John Elton Suhrke was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
The accident occurred at about 4:15 p.m. when the man was traveling east bound in a 2007 Kia. The vehicle reportedly went off the road and down an embankment on the south side. The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. There were no witnesses, CHP reports.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Coroner responded to the scene.
