Parkfield Bluegrass Festival set for May 8-11

Parkfield Bluegrass Music FestivalMusic fans are invited to camp out for the weekend or drive in for a day and enjoy talent from across the US

On May 8-11,  in the picturesque South Monterey County hamlet of Parkfield, CA, the Bluegrass Music Society of the Central Coast presents the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival. Parkfield, known as the “Earthquake Capital of the World,” springs to life every Mother’s Day weekend with the best little bluegrass festival anywhere. Bluegrass music fans take over this small country village once a year for four days of concerts, workshops, children’s activities, camping and round the clock music jams. Attendees are welcome to come for the weekend with their RVs or tents. Single day admissions are also available and the Festival offers a great day-trip outing from Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo.

The 2014 Parkfield Festival will feature a wealth of talent with headliners Peter Rowan from Boston, Central Coast legends the Cache Valley Drifters and Jeff Scroggins & Colorado from Lyons, CO. The Festival will welcome other well known artists including the Front Country, Snap Jackson, Virtual Strangers, Little Black Train, Amber Cross, Honeysuckle Possums, Steep Ravine, Canyon John, the Creak, Old Time Fiddle & Banjo Show and the Naked Bootleggers.. These performers will offer a diverse sampling of instrumental and vocal bluegrass music.

There will be instrumental workshops and family-friendly activities galore. The Festival will feature activities for youngsters including the popular music camp for kids, with banjo-man Gerry Higbie at the helm. Beginning musicians as well as old pros are encouraged to bring instruments and jam into the wee hours.

Parkfield offers rolling hills, lofty oaks and open pasture for acres of flat, grassy, tree-shaded “boondocks” campsites for tents or RVs. Hot showers stalls are provided. Class A electrical hook-ups can be reserved with early ticket purchases. For advance tickets and other details, please refer to the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival’s website at www.parkfieldbluegrass.com. Tickets are also available over the phone at (800) 838-3006.
