15 scarecrows by local students inhabit downtown

Halloween is a favorite holiday for many families and it’s a popular holiday for downtown Paso Robles when thousands of costumed-children take to the streets for a safe and free trick or treat event on Friday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Paso Robles Main Street Association’s Executive Director Norma Moye said that there are 200 businesses in the downtown and it’s up to each business whether or not it’s open and giving out candy. Though some businesses run out of candy before the end of night, Moye said they know in advance to be prepared to stock up with a lot of candy — although it doesn’t hurt to show up early.

The Paso Robles Historical Society will provide a barbecue dinner benefiting the society and, according to Moye, will charge a nominal fee for the food. Attendees will have the opportunity to get their photos taken with seven or eight witches who will be stationed in Downtown City Park next to the playhouse on 12th Street at Park Street. A pumpkin carving contest will be held at 6 p.m. in the park at the fountain, followed by a live performance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” by the Paso Robles Youth Arts Foundation, and demonstrations by Class Act Dance.
