Paso Robles High announces new online academy

Academy now accepting applicationsPaso Robles Joint Unified School District logo

– The Paso Robles Online (PRO) Academy is now accepting applications for the start of the spring semester in January. The PRO Academy is being offered through the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District and is a free, online, public high school program for students seeking a personalized alternative to the traditional school environment. It is the first district-supported online program in north San Luis Obispo County that has college preparatory courses approved for enrollment in a 4-year university directly after high school.

How does the PRO Academy work?

The PRO Academy will follow the same graduation requirements as the other high schools in PRJUSD with the difference being the flexibility in scheduling. Students meet with a designated online teacher once a week for one to two hours. During these meetings, students take tests, access tutoring, and work with their teacher to develop the weekly assignment sheet. The rest of the week is spent working independently to complete the assignments. Because the courses are online, that means the students can complete them anywhere and anytime. This provides students the flexibility to do things such as work during the day, travel with their families, audition to pursue a career in the arts, or compete in rodeos or motocross , all while finishing their diploma courses.

Curriculum meets the California education standards as well as the California State University/University of California admission requirements. Students enrolled in the PRO Academy will be issued a Chromebook to help facilitate with assignments. In addition to the online courses, students can also choose to take visual and performing arts and career technical education courses at Paso Robles High School. Students can also dual enroll in enrichment courses at Cuesta College and, because of the flexibility in scheduling, classes can be either day or night.
