Paso Robles merges transit services with county
The Paso Robles City Council approved a merger last week of the city’s public transit services with the San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority.
It will move Paso Robles and Atascadero’s fixed-route transit system and dial-a-ride under the county transit authority. Both cities are expected transfer their transit equipment and facilities to the SLORTA in June 2014. Current drivers will be able to apply for positions with the SLORTA.
The move is expected to save the two cities $325,000 in expenses while maintaining the same level of service. Savings from the consolidation will be used by the city for other transit projects, including road maintenance, bike paths, pedestrian trails, etc.
The plan has been in the works for two years, with the council first approving the concept in April 2012.
