Paso Robles participates in National Day of Service and Remembrance on 9-11

911-dos-logoIn honor of the 13th anniversary of 9-11 and in an effort to promote community involvement throughout the year, the City of Paso Robles is encouraging all residents to participate in the 5th annual National Day of Service and Remembrance by volunteering on or around September 11th.

Established by President Obama and Congress in 2009 to honor the sacrifices of 9/11 heroes and to engage more Americans in serving their communities, the National Day of Service and Remembrance is also a call for all Americans to commit to volunteering throughout the year.

Places to get involved include local animal shelters, child advocacy groups, churches, disaster relief and health organizations, retirement homes, schools, service organizations, and support groups.

Web sites such as www.volunteerslo.org, www.volunteermatch.org, and www.serve.gov allow visitors to type in their zip code to find local volunteer opportunities or to find ideas for creating new projects. Families interested in volunteering together might also visit www.thevolunteerfamily.org for ideas.

Individuals looking for short- or long-term service opportunities with the City of Paso Robles can find information on the city website, www.prcity.com/services/volunteer or can email Suzanne at srobitaille@prcity.com.
