Paso Robles square dancers host guest caller
California Central Camp ‘N’ Dancers in conjunction with the Do Paso Square Dance Club brought to the Paso Robles Grange Hall guest caller, Kathy Racine from Provo, Utah. Square Dancers from all over the Central Coast enjoyed the event on Saturday. The event included dancing for beginners and intermediate dancers, a spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings, and a patriotic sing-a-long.
The Stokes, members of both the Camp ‘N’ Dancers and Do Pasos heard Racine call on one of their trips to Utah and recruited her for this event. Racine started calling in 1969 in Vernal, Utah about six weeks after she started dancing and has called for forty-four years.
She calls for the Maverick’s Club in Springville, Utah and the Electric Squares in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has also called in all the Western States and at six National Conventions. She had the privilege of calling at the Australia National Convention in Wondonga, Australia in 2010 and has recorded two CDs.
On the home front, Racine has five grown children, nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. She says the kids all think their grandma is crazy when she dresses up in those “funny” dresses and travels all over the country. She loves square dancing and the special people that she has met over the years.
Square dancing is actively recruiting new members here in the North County and on the Central Coast. If you are interested in becoming a part of this fun activity please call Gwen Stokes (719) 216-4921 for Camp ‘N’ Dancers or Sue Seliskar (805) 466-0147 for Do Pasos.
