Paso Robles Library Peeps Diorama Contest winners announced

Wendi Dam-Mikkelsen earned first place in the adult category for The Lion, The Peeps and the Wardrobe. Winning entries will be on display in the library throughout the month of May.

Eight artistic locals enjoyed the sweet taste of victory as they were honored in the Paso Robles City Library Peeps Diorama Contest on Wednesday afternoon. The contest, a month-long event to celebrate National Library Week in April, brought in 51 diorama entries depicting favorite books using only marshmallow Peeps as the characters. From The Wizard of Peeps to The Lightning Peeps, marshmallow madness filled the library shelves. Throughout the month of April, library patrons voted for their favorite entries in the categories of adult, teen and children’s dioramas. The winning entries will be on display in the library throughout the month of May.

More than 550 votes later, cast, first place in the adult category was awarded to Wendi Dam-Mikkelsen for The Lion, The Peeps and the Wardrobe. Her entry featured a working street light and a dazzling recreation of the White Witch and other popular characters from the C.S. Lewis novel. The winners of the teen category were Gabby and Alexandra Fletes for their depiction from the children’s book Pinkalicious. Annika Dam-Mikkelsen earned first place for favorite children’s entry for her take-off on the Roald Dahl’s classic with her The Peeps and the Chocolate Factory. The favorite entry submitted by library staff was created by Leslie Gomes for her depiction of Peeplena from the children’s picture book Poodlena Pompadour.

Second place in the adult category went to Allison Ontiveros for The Last Peep Supper while a third place nod was given to A Tale of Peeps in Two Cities by Daniela Singleton, with help from her younger

sibling Rosie and mom Carol Singleton. Little Peeps on the Prairie earned a second place award for Haelee Rochez and The Pearl Peeps earned third place for Samantha Hansen.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the enthusiasm and support the Paso Robles community showed for this event,” said Heather Stephenson, Children’s Librarian and contest organizer. “The library was buzzing with activity throughout April as entries began to pour in and community members cast their votes for favorites. People are already talking about their ideas for next year”

Winners received marshmallow Peeps, Peeps merchandise, Park Cinemas movie passes, gift certificates to Powell’s Sweet Shoppe and Jamba Juice; prizes were donated by the businesses and the library.
