Police identify robbery suspect as Kelly Grimm

Update March 31: The Paso Robles Police Department has continued to investigate an armed robbery that occurred on March 29 at Payless Shoe Source in Paso Robles. Through the course of their investigation, detectives learned there were similar robberies of Payless Shoe Source stores in King City, Sand City, and Salinas. Detectives contacted each jurisdiction and determined the suspect’s description in the Paso Robles robbery matched those of the other robberies.

As a result of this collaborative effort, Paso Robles Police were able to positively identify a suspect, Kelly Shawn Grimm, 40, of Salinas. Additionally, witnesses at the Paso Robles Payless Shoe store were able to positively identify Grimm as the suspect.

Grimm is currently wanted for questioning in a series of armed robberies in Monterey county, and now San Luis Obispo County. Grimm is described as a white male, 6-01, 240 pounds, blonde hair, blue eyes, clean shaven.
He is possible driving a white 1997 Toyota Camry, LIC# 5AJR595.

Police conduct search for shoe store robbery suspect

On Sunday, March 29, at approximately 5 p.m., the Paso Robles Police Department received a report of an armed robbery which had just occurred at the Payless Shoe Source store on the 100 block of Niblick Road in Paso Robles.heroin arrest

According to a report released by the police, officers arrived and determined a lone male suspect had entered the business and appeared to be shopping for a few minutes before approaching the counter. The suspect began what appeared to be a regular transaction with the employee, but then pulled up his shirt revealing a handgun in his waistband, at which point the suspect then demanded money from the employee, the report said.

The employee complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to him. The suspect walked out of the business after taking the money and fled in a white four-door sedan westbound on Niblick Road, according to the report.

The suspect was described as a white male adult in his 30’s, 5’10”, approximately 240 pounds, clean shaven with blonde colored hair. He was last seen wearing a white shirt and gray cargo style shorts.

There were no injuries during this event, and the investigation is ongoing.
