Rain is in the forecast

paso robles rainfallFor the first time in many months, rain is expected to fall on Paso Robles Monday and possibly Tuesday. AccuWeather calls it “mostly cloudy, breezy and cooler with a passing shower.”

Monday is expected to have a high temperature of 57 degrees Fahrenheit with a 40-percent chance of precipitation. Tuesday brings a lesser chance of rain.

The storm would be the first since .15 inches fell in May of this year. The 2012-13 rainfall season, which runs July to June, delivered 7.18 inches of rain. That’s barely half of the city’s average of 14.33 inches, according to city records. It was the driest year since 2006-07 that yielded 6.24 inches. The driest year on the city’s record books going back to 1942 was 1975-76 with just 5.34 inches.

The drought in rainfall has the local lakes very low. Lake Nacimiento is at 25-percent of capacity with 96,340 acre-feet of water. Lake San Antonio is at just 5-percent of capacity with 16,130 acre-feet of water.
