– Riboli Family Wine Estates, operator of San Antonio Winery, brought in its first harvest from its newest vineyard, the estate Stefano Vineyard in the El Pomar district.

“Harvest has begun early in 2015,” said Anthony Riboli, fourth generation winemaker. “We picked Viognier on August 24 in Paso Robles.” Riboli said the quantity of grapes in both Paso Robles and Monterey is low due to windy spring conditions and the widespread drought in California. “However, the quality of the grapes appears excellent due to smaller clusters and berries which result in more concentrated, flavorful wines,” he said.

The estate Stefano vineyard is named for the patriarch of San Antonio Winery, Anthony’s grandfather Stefano Riboli. Stefano’s uncle, Santo Cambianica, founded San Antonio Winery in Los Angeles in 1917. In 1934, Stefano moved to Los Angeles from Italy to help his uncle run the winery, until today at 94 years old, along with his wife Maddalena, and three children.

In the 1970s, the Riboli family established a presence in Paso Robles, purchasing their first grapes from the area. Stefano Riboli planted the first vine from the newest Stefano Vineyard in 2013 (pictured above right).

San Antonio Winery’s tasting room is located at Highway 46 East and Highway 101. Riboli Family Wine Estates is currently building a new winery in Paso Robles, which will house its production facility, scheduled to open in 2016.
