Rotta Winery brings back ‘the jug’

The Rotta jug is back.

The Rōtta jug is back.

Jug will be released Dec. 3

—Established in 1908, Rōtta Winery—one of Paso’s oldest and most historic wineries—is paying homage to its past by bringing back a limited release of the Rōtta Jug.

From 1908 all the way through the1970s, Rōtta was known as the home of the Rōtta Jug. The modern California wine scene swept through and did away with the jug in favor the 750ml bottle and the introduction of “high-end” winemaking. Today, Rōtta is making estate cabernet sauvignon Bordelaise blends and old vine zinfandel.

Owner Sebastian Budeguer has a grand vision for Rōtta. “We want to lunge forward but we always want to remember were we came from and be careful not to forget our roots. We want to bring the Rōtta Jug back!”

The limited edition 2-liter silk screened bottle is a collector’s item, filled with the classic Rōtta field style blend of 60-percent Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and 40-percent Estate Zinfandel made with 100-percent French Oak. The Rōtta Jug will be released Dec. 3, 2016 to the general public with a pre-sale for Club Rōtta members. Get them at the winery while supplies last.

Rōtta Winery is located at 250 Winery Road, Templeton, Calif. 93465. For more information, call (805) 237-0510.
