School district addresses release of student information 

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District–The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District released the following statement regarding a recent federal court ruling that may allow a parent advocacy group in Morgan Hill to access student information.

The release reads:

The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District (PRJUSD) has been made aware of a recent federal district court ruling that may soon place information regarding our students into the hands of an advocacy group called The Morgan Hill Concerned Parents Association (MHCPA).

The district will not be releasing this information to the association. The information will come directly from the California Department of Education and not from the district.

The database that the MHCPA will have access to includes all information on any student who is attending or has attended a California school at any time since January 1, 2008. PRJUSD has no additional information nor control over the release of this information to MHCPA. Student’s information will not be made public, it will be given to the MHCPA.

Students and parents can opt out of the list by following detailed instructions from the district court.

More information about the lawsuit can be found on the PRJUSD website as well as the California Department of Education website. All school sites, as well as the district office, will have opt out letters available for parents at the front desk.
