Superintendent Kathy McNamara

The Superintendent of Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, Kathleen McNamara, announced her retirement at Tuesday night’s regular Board of Trustees meeting. Her retirement will be effective June 30, 2014. The Board accepted her unexpected request with regret and respect, and praised McNamara for her leadership of the District during a difficult time, according to a press release from the district.

McNamara has been the Superintendent for Paso Robles Public Schools for the last seven years, after serving as superintendent at Banning Unified School District. During her tenure, she guided the district through an economically tumultuous time in the state’s history.

She has overseen the completion of the new Flamson Middle School building, and the Measure T building program completed within budget. According to the press release, McNamara has been instrumental in the rise of the academic performance of the schools in the district, including the increase of the district’s Annual Performance Index (API) scores, and a six-year accreditation for Paso Robles High School – the highest level of accreditation awarded to high schools.

Katy Griffin, Board President, stated on behalf of the Board, “With much regret, we accepted Kathy’s decision to retire early. She’s worked tirelessly for the benefit of this district and made tough decisions that helped make us a better district. We’ll miss her and wish her the best.”

McNamara will remain in Paso Robles in retirement and continue to serve the community. “I love Paso Robles, this district and all those who make it so special with their passion and dedication to public education”, she said. “I will miss the daily challenge of leading this district; it is an honor.”
