Second phase of widening Highway 46 completed 

Highway-46-wideningThe widening of a five-mile section of Highway 46 East from Geneseo Road to Almond Drive east of Paso Robles has been completed, Caltrans officials announced today.

This project widened Highway. 46 East from a single lane in each direction to two lanes each way and included the construction of the signature Estrella River Bridges. The contractor for this $47 million project was Papich Construction of Pismo Beach, CA.

Construction to widen another six-mile segment, the third phase, of Highway 46 East from Almond Drive to McMillan Canyon Road is underway. It is expected to be complete in the fall of 2015. The contractor for this $38 million project is also Papich Construction.

“We are thrilled to complete this second phase of widening Hwy. 46 East and we continue to work on expanding this busy east-west corridor all the way to Interstate 5,” said Caltrans District 5 Director Tim Gubbins.

These projects will improve safety, traffic flow and local access along Highway 46 East.
