shandon principal fired

Shandon School District superintendent and principal Rodney Wallace was fired last week in a school board meeting closed to the public, according to reports. The Shandon Joint Unified School District board of trustees has not disclosed the reasons for the termination.

Former Pleasant Valley School District Superintendent Tom Apkarian was appointed to fill the position as an interim leader by the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education. The county office of education says it supports the board’s decision, according to KSBY. Apkarian said he was asked by the county office of education to fill in a few days a week on a temporary basis. He said the Shandon Board of Trustees will again shortly to decide its next step.

Wallace was with the district for four years and served not only as the superintendent of the district but also as the high school principal for the small district 18 miles west of Paso Robles. The Shandon School District includes Parkfield, Shandon Elementary and the middle and high school.

Several students and parents are protested the board’s decision by picketing outside the school according to reports from KSBY and Cal Coast News.
