SLO County Regional Transit Authority joins North County cities

Paso Express

Paso Express and Dial-A-Ride services merge with county transportation

On June 1, the SLO County Regional Transit Authority and the cities of Paso Robles and Atascadero will join forces. RTA and the cities approved the consolidation several months ago after a three-year process to ensure public transportation needs are met.

RTA Executive Director Geoff Straw and the RTA Team are “excited” to work with area leaders to provide the most efficient and cost-effective transit services possible in the North County.

“Current riders will enjoy better coordinated services between Paso Express buses and RTA buses, equitable fares and consistency in how the operations are provided,” Straw said. “We also welcome the former Paso Express and Atascadero El Camino Shuttle employees to the RTA Team. We strongly believe this consolidation will improve transit services in the region, and our Team looks forward to welcoming aboard new riders that will find the consolidated services less disjointed than they might have seemed in the past.”

The Paso Express will merge both Fixed Route and Dial-A-Ride services with RTA. The city’s burgundy/black livery transit vehicles will continue to operate on Paso Express Routes A and B. The current Paso Express Route C will be incorporated into RTA Route 9 on June 1st, which connects San Luis Obispo to the North County communities. Atascadero’s El Camino Shuttle will cease operations, although the Dial-A-Ride service will continue to be funded and administered by the City of Atascadero.

The Regional Day Pass can be purchased on buses. The Paso Express Passes will be eliminated and replaced with RTA fare media. RTA and Regional passes are available at area Rabobanks, Paso Robles City Hall Annex and Atascadero City Hall. The Paso Train Station will cease sales of passes.

The new expanded RTA Route 9 will now include service to: Twin Cities Community Hospital, the Target Shopping area on Theater Drive at Highway 46, the Cuesta College North Campus, and along north El Camino Real in Atascadero.

Schedule time changes are planned. Please see slorta.org for specific area details.
