Small businesswoman announces bid for congressional seat

Alexis Stuart

Republican Alexis Stuart of Nipomo formally declared her bid for Congress in California’s 24th Congressional District, currently held by Rep. Lois Capps of Santa Barbara. Capps has announced her plans to seek re-election. Paso Robles and all of San Luis Obispo is in the 24th Congressional District.

Other challengers for the seat include Republican Dale Francisco, of Santa Barbara City Council; Democrat Paul Coyne of Santa Maria, and Republican Justin Fareed, a former aide for Rep. Ed Whitefield of Kentucky.

Stuart says she is not a politician; nor will she ever consider herself one. She is small business owner who has become an even smaller owner over the last five years, she says in a press release. Stuart says she is running as a Grassroots Conservative Republican. Although Stuart is not happy with some of the current GOP Republicans and their moderate policies, she believes the Republican Party needs to be reformed, not replaced by a third party.

Stuart says she wants to share her solutions to help the 24th District. Over-regulations are very burdensome, she says. She knows this first hand as a small business owner and wants to offer some ideas to improve our current situation, her statement reads.

If we reduce the size of government, bring manufacturing back to America, cut spending and balance the budget – we will not need to borrow money from China, her statement reads.

Stuart has lived in Nipomo for the last 12 years, where she owns Music Biz, a small musical instrument store. She is a California licensed real estate broker, credit coach, and mediator.
