A new Smart & Final Extra! store will open on Wednesday, June 12 at 2121 Spring Street in Paso Robles. The new store, which totals 28,000 square feet, is much larger than a typical Smart & Final warehouse store and is designed to offer everything business and household grocery shoppers love about Smart & Final plus a huge selection of fresh produce at the best prices in town and fresh meat cut in store daily.

The larger sales floor will allow the new Paso Robles location to carry thousands of additional items in smaller, convenient sizes. The assortment includes a greatly expanded selection of products in key categories like produce, fresh meat, frozen foods, dairy, deli and grocery basics like cereal, yogurt, bread and snacks. There are also sections for baby food, diapers and health and beauty care and an extensive bulk foods department sold from self-service bins. Like all Smart & Final stores, the Paso Robles location also will carry a large selection of “Club Pack” sized products for stocking-up and a broad assortment of foodservice, janitorial and other supplies for businesses and organizations.

“The new Paso Robles Smart & Final Extra! store continues our recent expansion on the Central Coast, and I am excited to have the opportunity to showcase our unique store to the residents, businesses and community groups of the Paso Robles area. Our product offering at Smart & Final Extra! is unlike any other retailer – we combine the high quality fresh produce of a farmer’s market, the low prices of a discount grocer and the large club size products of a traditional club store. In addition we have everything that small businesses, clubs and organizations need on a daily basis – all with no club card or membership fees. We have put together a great team of friendly associates that are looking forward to serving the Paso Robles community,” said Dave Hirz, Smart & Final president and chief executive officer.

The store will open its doors at 6 a.m. on June 12. Customers will receive a free reusable shopping bag at check-out while supplies last on Grand Opening Day and will be able to take advantage of special in-store offers throughout the Grand Opening week. In addition, ten $100 SmartCash Gift Cards will be given away every day from June 12 through June 16. See store for details. Customers will also enjoy special product demonstrations and samplings of Smart & Final’s popular private label and national brand items from June 13 through June 18.
A private, on-site ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at an “invitation-only” June 11 Preview Night for store associates, suppliers and local Chamber of Commerce and city officials. During the event, Smart & Final will be giving back to the community by donating $2,500 to both the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County and the Estrella Career Center at Cuesta College.

Founded in 1989, the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County is the only countywide source of nutritious and low-cost food for low-income families, seniors, children, veterans and the disabled. Through direct programs like the Lovin’ Lunchbox Program for school children and the Senior Brown Bag Program, and in partnership with over 200 SLO County agencies, the Food Bank Coalition provided more than 5.5 million pounds of food, helping over 40,000 county residents in 2012.

The Estrella Career Center, open since July 2012 on the Cuesta College North County campus, provides students and community members with a comprehensive location to meet their job search needs. Staff and technology are available to assist the job seeker in finding employment. Services for job seekers include computers for job search, online job data bases, typing tests, resume assistance, and mock interviews. Additionally, the Estrella Career Center provides a professional environment for employers to hold job fairs, recruitments and offers training facilities for employment orientations. There is never a fee for job seekers or employers.

Originally founded in 1871 in downtown Los Angeles, Smart & Final Stores LLC operates approximately 250 retail stores under the banners Smart & Final, Smart & Final Extra!, and Cash & Carry Smart Foodservice. For more information, visit the company’s website at www.smartandfinal.com.
