SoCalGas to relocate gas main in San Miguel

Operation should be complete by Oct. 10 so Caltrans can begin road improvementshighway 46 road closure

Southern California Gas Company, SoCalGas, has announced work will begin next week to relocate a 990-foot section of natural gas distribution pipeline in San Miguel, California, just north of Paso Robles. The 10-inch-diameter steel pipeline must be moved to allow for roadway and bridge improvements by Caltrans.

Work will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 on Mission Street just north of 20th Street and gradually continue north to exit 241 of the 101 freeway. Work hours will be Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The operation should be complete by Monday, Oct.10, if weather and other factors permit.

During a portion of the project, construction activity will require closing the southbound Mission Street exit from the 101 freeway, as well as closing northbound lanes of Mission Street. Road closures will be in effect only during working hours, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be marked with traffic cones, digital message boards and signs.

“Throughout this work to accommodate Caltrans improvements, delivering safe and reliable natural gas service will be the first priority of SoCalGas,” said Tim Mahoney, public affairs manager for SoCalGas.

People passing by the work site may see excavation, equipment, vehicles and traffic control signage. The nearby community may also hear some work-related noise and notice an occasional natural gas odor.

SoCalGas dedicates significant resources to improving the safety and integrity of its more than 101,000 miles of natural gas pipelines. In 2016, the company plans to spend approximately $1.2 billion on various improvements to distribution, transmission and storage systems and for pipeline safety projects.

Any customers who are expected to experience a temporary natural gas service interruption will be notified by SoCalGas directly. Those with questions or concerns about the testing may call our Customer Contact Center at (800) 427-2200.
