Mike Beck headlines 4th anniversary party

Songwriters At Play celebrates its four-year anniversary of Sunday showcases at Sculpterra Winery with a special event this Saturday. The featured artist is Mike Beck, who is touring across the United States and Europe. He is a regularly featured performer at The National Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering. Mike has six albums under his belt with original songs that have been recognized as some of the finest compositions on Western Americana.

Born and raised in Monterey County, California, Mike Beck went to the Monterey Pop Festival at age 13, and liked what he heard. He picked up a guitar and never looked back. Since that time, he has been composing and performing a wide array of folk, rock and Americana music. Mike’s songs reflect his life as a professional musician and a working cowboy in California, Nevada and Montana. The Western Horseman magazine recently picked “The 13 Best Cowboy Songs,” and included two compositions by Mike, putting him alongside writers such as Ian Tyson, Tom Russell, Lucinda Williams, and Gene Autry.

The Jan. 18 showcase will also include guest performers Cliff Stepp, Gypsy Starfish, and others. Host Steve Key will kick off the show at 1 p.m. This fourth anniversary of shows will be celebrated with cake and a drawing for CDs and other prizes.

Songwriters At Play holds showcases every Sunday afternoon, 1–4 p.m. at Sculpterra Winery, 5015 Linne Road, Paso Robles, (805)226-8881. The showcase includes one featured act playing a 45-minute set, and 4-5 others playing 4-song sets. All ages are welcome.
