Sports highlights: Bearcat swimmers defeat the Knights 

High school sports highlights of the week

Paso Robles swimming

Paso Robles High School, PRHS BearcatsThe Bearcat varsity swimmers defeated the St. Joseph Knights in both the girls and boys competitions on Friday in Santa Maria.

With a final score of Paso 197-St. Joseph 60, the Lady Bearcats took victories in all but two events and had multiple event wins from Mackenzie Raymond (200 IM, 100 Freestyle, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), Veronica Ayala (100 Fly, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), and Kasey Moffitt (100 Backstroke, 200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay).

The Bearcat boys earned a final score of 198-63 over the Knights. They finished first in all but two events with multiple wins earned by Josh Dewhurst (200 Free, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), Gavin Hughes, (200 I.M., 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), Grant Scheiffele (100 Fly, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), Mitchell Iunker (200 Medley Relay, 100 Free), Zac Brown (500 Freestyle, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), and Hugo Delagraye (200 Medley Relay, 100 Back). Dewhurst and Brown each picked up CIF consideration times in the 200 Free (1:48.03) and 500 Free (4:59.50) respectively.

Bearcat boys’ golf

The Bearcats were defeated by San Luis Obispo in a home match, 448-424, on Friday. Paso Robles’ Greg Potruch was the medalist with a score of 78.

Bearcats softball

The varsity Bearcats fell to the Buchanan Bears, 10-2 in game one and 2-1 in game two on Thursday. In game one, Brooke Milder was 2 for 3 with one RBI.

The junior varsity players tied their first game with the Bears, 3-3, before losing 13-5 in game two.

The Bearcats will travel across town to Atascadero on Tuesday, March 22 to face the Greyhounds.

Shandon baseball

The Shandon Outlaws earned an 11-1 victory in six innings over the visiting Alpaugh Buffaloes on Friday afternoon in their first home game of the season.

Isaiah Celis was the winning pitcher, pitching all six innings for the Outlaws. Daniel Diaz had two RBIs and Nate Soto had a triple and three RBIs for Shandon.

The Outlaws, under the direction of Head Varsity Coach Chris Guiffre and Assistant Coach Scott Danha, will travel to Avenal on Tuesday, March 29 to face the Buccaneers at 3:30 p.m.
