High school students invited to compete in regional academic tournament

Academic TournamentThe Second Annual Academic Scholars Tournament for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County high school students is being held on Saturday May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cal Poly in the Science Fisher Hall. College Road Tutoring and Consulting of Templeton, along with Cal Poly Alpha Phi Omega members, are hosting the 2014 academic tournament.

High school students from throughout the county will be competing in teams of three and answering SAT- and ACT-type questions. The SAT and ACT exams are the important college entrance exams that college-bound high school students take during their sophomore and junior years. These scores, along with their GPA, determine which colleges they are eventually accepted to for admission. Students register individually and will be placed on a team, with students from other high schools, when they arrive at the competition.

Goals of the academic tournament

  1. To motivate local college-bound students to begin early preparation for their important SAT and ACT College Entrance Exams.
  2. To build self-confidence in the participating scholars.
  3. To reward students for their academic success.

Registration is now OPEN and students can register for the tournament at www.AcademicTournament.com. For more information, call (805) 996-0228.
