The Committee for Paso Robles’ 125th Anniversary Celebration, kicking off this New Year’s Eve and running through 2014, is proud to announce that two prominent local residents, Frank Mecham and Dee Lacey, have stepped up to lead all efforts for the celebration.

Dee and Frank plan to start fundraising immediately, emphasizing the fact that the celebration was designed to raise funds for local historical agencies in order to preserve Paso Robles’ history. “I think Paso Robles has weathered the past few years better than most communities,” states Dee Lacey. “The 125th Anniversary is the perfect way for all of us to come together and celebrate all that we’ve accomplished in the past and work to continue to preserve that past for future generations.”

District 1 Supervisor, fifth-generation Roblan and former Paso Robles mayor Frank Mecham is thrilled to help lead the efforts to raise funds for local historical organizations while celebrating Paso’s past. “When Dee (Lacey) called me to see if I’d like to be her co-chair for the 125th Anniversary, I couldn’t say no,” stated Frank Mecham. “She’s the reason I ran for mayor way back when, and her enthusiasm for this event is contagious. Everyone loves a party and, how often do you get the opportunity to celebrate a 125th birthday party? I’m proud to join my friend Dee Lacey, along with all the folks that are part of our community, in celebrating Paso Robles’ 125th birthday. I hope you will join us in what will be the place to be in 2014!”

Events planned for the celebration include a free fireworks show over the City Park on New Year’s Eve, a gala fundraising dinner, an official birthday celebration and more. Firestone Walker Brewery is producing a special brew for the occasion and Hope Family Wines has offered to do a commemorative wine; both of which will be available for sale to the general public and as a benefit of sponsorship.

Other items planned include an historical calendar highlighting events from the past 125 years, a cookbook featuring recipes from local pioneer families and chefs, 125th anniversary memorabilia, a time capsule and a new city flag.

A complete website is being developed that will feature a gallery of historical photos provided by the El Paso de Robles Historical Society, an historic timeline of the events that shaped Paso Robles and ongoing stories about historic items of interest that will give context to how events of the past contribute to the continued strength of our unique community.
