First ‘Taste of Templeton’ is a success

Hundreds gather for “Taste of Templeton”

The Templeton Chamber of Commerce celebrated the arrival of summer with a brand new event Saturday, Taste of Templeton. Local growers and producers of extra virgin olive oils, makers of fine wines, and other vendors here on the Central Coast gathered to join in the inauguration of a “Taste of Templeton.”

More than 30 vendors filled the Templeton City Park Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  It was hosted in conjunction with the Saturday Farmer’s Market in the park. The Templeton Chamber of Commerce organized the event with support of the California Olive Oil Council (COOC) and the Central Coast Olive Growers (CCOG).  Major sponsors include Pasolivo, Olivas de Oro, Templeton Olive Oil and Hub International.

The event highlighted the emergence of local area growers as producers of the finest, award-winning, extra virgin olive oils now being offered in the United States.  CCOG members poured samples of their artisanal olive oils, explaining how it is produced, and describe the health benefits of really fresh, really good extra virgins olive oils.  Members of the COOC were in the Pavilion offering classes and demonstrations regarding the history, use, and benefits of extra virgin olive oil, including California’s role as the premier producer of olive oils in North America.

CCOG and COOC were joined by local area wineries who sampled their wines to reinforce the relationship between fine wines, hand-crafted olive oils, and gourmet cuisine.  The Templeton area, long-known for producing premier wines, enjoys the Mediterranean climate that also produces extraordinary extra virgin olive oils.  Additional Templeton-area businesses related to fine foods or the art of fine cuisine were there to make this the event a true “Taste of Templeton”.

Berdette Robison, the executive director of the chamber was excited about the response of vendors and the turn out from the public:

“The Taste of Templeton yesterday was a huge success…in spite the heat! Lots of people to thank including the olive oil vendors, wineries and other local vendors. Special thank you to Patty Darragh, California Olive Oil Council, Art Kishiyama, Central Coast Olive Growers, and sponsors Olea Farm, Pasolivo, Templeton Olive Oil and Olivas de Oro. And, of course, thank you to the TOT planning committee consisting of Art Kishiyama, Olio Nuevo, Berdette Robison, Templeton Chamber of Commerce, Melinda Larenata, Larnaneta Vineyards & Olive Oil, Dan Rohde, Templeton Olive Oil, and Jerry Schaffer, Fandango Oil. Great job everybody!”
