Templeton Fire Department (TFD) held an orientation day for seven new recruits on Friday, January 18th.

According to TFD Volunteer Coordinator/Fire Engineer Tony Broom, the recruits were issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), uniforms, and task books. They were then processed through Templeton Community Services District, provided with an overview of TFD expectations, and began their training process on orientation day.

Jeff Cannon, John Yessner, Ross Martin, and Ryan Biderston have no fire experience and will be attending the San Luis Obispo County Volunteer Firefighter Academy beginning February 9th.

Eddie James, Adam Cole, and Darrin Jensen have their California Firefighter 1 credentials.

According to the State Fire Procedures Manual: Fire Fighter I certification identifies the skills and knowledge necessary for the entry-level firefighter to safely perform the tasks required of the job. This training prepares the firefighter to perform essential and advanced fire ground tasks with minimal supervision and to use, inspect and maintain firefighting and rescue equipment. In addition, the Fire Fighter I program provides training in the skills necessary to perform basic rescue operations, fire prevention and fire investigation tasks. It is the level of certification that allows entry into all tracks of the certification system.
