Templeton firefighter receives captain’s badge
–On Tuesday, Templeton Community Service District Fire Department Engineer Tony Broom was sworn in by Interim Fire Chief Bill White as Templeton Fire Department’s newest captain.
Broom was pinned by his son, Cade Broom.
Broom underwent a rigorous testing assessment to obtain the promotion to fire captain. The testing included a resume review, writing project, fire simulations and a chief’s interview.
“Broom is a tremendous asset to the fire department. Besides emergency services response, he is responsible for the recruitment and retention of personnel, fire prevention, fireworks permitting and coordination, weed abatement, the high school cadet program, IT technical support and fire investigation. We are very proud of Captain Broom’s accomplishments and could not be more pleased with his performance and dedication to the community of Templeton,” said Interim Fire Chief Bill White.
Broom began his career with the Templeton Fire Department as a Paid Call Firefighter 2009 and was later hired as a full-time engineer under the FEMA SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response) Grant. The promotion to fire captain is at no additional costs to the district, but will fill a much needed operational void in the department.
