Vegetation fire ignites in riverbed 

Fire started by illegal campfire

–On Friday, at 11:10 p.m., the Paso Robles Fire Department responded to a reported vegetation fire at the 3200 Block of Sulphur Springs Rd., in the Salinas Riverbed adjacent to the wastewater yard in the City of Paso Robles.

The fire was a quarter-acre, moving at a slow rate of speed in grass, brush and large downed tree branches. Fifteen firefighters from the Paso Robles Department of Emergency Services and San Luis Obispo County Fire Department contained the fire in 30 minutes, according to the Paso Robles Fire Department. Extensive mop-up and overhaul of the area was performed to fully extinguish all of the material burned. All units were released at 1:39 a.m.

No firefighter injuries were reported.

The subsequent investigation determined that the vegetation fire was started by an illegal campfire. No witness or suspects have been identified at this time.

The Department of Emergency Services reminds all community members that camp fires, are not permitted within the city limits.
