Seeking 200 local volunteers for America’s largest cycling race in Morro Bay

–The Amgen Tour of California is seeking 200 local volunteers to help in Morro Bay on Wednesday, May 18. Volunteers will assist internationally renowned professional cyclists and fans as part of America’s largest cycling race.

The Morro Bay local organizing committee is recruiting volunteers to help with minor traffic control to protect elite riders as they make their way through town. The cycling race will roll through 12 host cities May 15-22, including a race start in Morro Bay on Wednesday, May 18.

Morro Bay Tourism Bureau Executive Director Brent Haugen said they are excited to be able to show off our beautiful city to the world. “I know our local volunteers are as excited as we are to put our best foot forward,” he said.

President of the race and executive vice president of AEG Sports Kristin Klein said as they enter a new decade of the Amgen Tour of California, they are grateful for their fans and residents across the state who have helped build “America’s Greatest Race.”

“Fans and volunteers are central to this race continuing to prosper, and we’re excited that visiting four new host cities this year will provide opportunity for even more cycling fans to join us out on the roads of beautiful California,” said Klein.

The Amgen Tour is the nation’s largest professional cycling race, and brings renowned riders from around the world to compete in scenic California, but also provides cycling fans and community members the opportunity to participate closely in an elite international sporting event. One-day volunteer positions are available in and around each host city, as well as positions that travel with the race.

Volunteers can sign up by selecting Morro Bay Stage 4 as a volunteer preference at www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/volunteer. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 or accompanied by an adult.
