Walker gave an inspirational speech about how the brewery got started, by a pair of “fast friends” who were “full of spit and vinegar,” as he put it. Firestone Walker Brewery was started by brothers by marriage Walker and Adam Firestone and has since grown to make a name for itself in the national beer market, all while proudly representing the Central Coast and the artisan brewer.

Michael Bradley shared an update on the 2016 Mid-State Fair and gave the audience insight on the fair’s future under his leadership. Bradley plans to improve safety even further in coming years, as well as “take care of grandma,” he said, by looking at improving commodities such as restrooms, making water and shade more available, and improving the experience as a whole. He also shared that the fairgrounds will be expanding by six acres, and that next year, there will be a new carnival company.

Marisa Bloch from Pasolivo gave an informative presentation on the process of making olive oil, and Tatiana Abundis from Big Brother Big Sisters spoke about how the program benefits local youth and their plans for the program in North County.

The event also featured three short, “Paso Pitches,” by a representative from the SLO Jazz Festival, who talked about their upcoming event Fall Fest, A.C.E. Promotions, who create custom promotional products and advertising material, and Editor Skye Ravy from Access Publishing, who spoke about the company’s two upcoming seminars: On Wed., Sept. 28, Ravy will be giving a demonstration on how to draft and send a press release to improve media exposure, and on Friday, Sept. 30, Sales Director and Co-Owner of Access Publishing Beth Brennan will be giving a seminar on the benefit of SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. Both seminars are free to attend.

The chamber’s Wake Up Paso events provide both businesspeople and community members the opportunity to hear from local professionals regarding relevant topics that affect our community while enjoying breakfast.
