Paso Robles artist Dale Evers’ newest large-scale sculpture, Mega Focus, will be unveiled at Sculpterra Winery next month. The unveiling of the massive 24-foot tall bronze sculpture will be hosted by Hollywood star William Shatner, who is a fan of Evers.

Mega Focus is a continuation of the piece, Focus, which depicted a man holding onto a bow and launching himself into the future, said Evers, an artist for 36 years who has spent the last eight in Paso Robles.

“Focus was a piece I did five years ago that has become an important piece,” Ever said. “It’s about overcoming adversity.”

Mega-Focus weighs one ton. It is made from bronze and stainless steel and took nearly a year and a half for Evers and his team to construct. The piece is a limited edition, with only 10 pieces being made, which, Evers said, makes it a museum piece.

While there will be smaller pieces of the sculpture available for purchase, Evers said that the full-size artwork will sell for $300,000.

Dale Evers Paso Robles

Dale Evers is an American artist and a pioneer in the area of functional art and design.

“That is the reality of what it costs to build something that big,” Evers said. “I like doing big art — I always have — but the problem is you can bankrupt yourself doing big art, so you’ve got to balance it.”

Shatner and Evers will be joined by Francsico Quiroz, founder of Art 21 Studio in Guadalajara, Mexico, who assisted Evers in the creation of the sculpture. The event is Sunday, Oct. 26 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the winery, located at 5015 Linne Road on the east side of Paso Robles. Tickets for the unveiling are $30 per person and include hors d’oeuvres and wine. Tickets can be purchased by calling Sculpterra Winery at (805) 226-8881.

Evers to hold open house September 13

Evers began his art career by doing Marine art, which took him into underwater photography in the 1990s. He also enjoys pencil sketching. He now earns his living doing lighting designs and creating furniture, sculptures, signs and gates. He said he mainly creates functional art in his studio at 1000 Park St. in Paso Robles.

On Saturday, Sept. 13 from noon to 8 p.m., Evers will open his Paso Robles studio to the public, something he hasn’t done in over two years. He said it was be a show, but he’s calling it an open house.

Evers has been the resident artist for Sculpterra Winery for the last year and several of his pieces are on display there. While he said he only has a handful at the winery, his goal is to not have a large quantity, but rather larger-scale pieces.
