Wine Country Theatre and Park Ballroom collaborate on new show

Debbie Lorenz, owner of Acorn Event Management, and Wine Country Theatre of Paso Robles are collaborating on a new performing arts opportunity at the Park Ballroom. Often used for musical performances, weddings, conferences and special events, the Park Ballroom is preparing for its first theatrical presentation, the hilarious hit musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change!, opening Nov. 21.
Wine Country Theatre Executive Director, Cynthia Anthony, met with Lorenz in the summer to discuss the possibility of using the gracious ballroom, with its high ceilings and hard wood stage, as a venue for a fully produced musical. Lorenz was intrigued by the idea, “We love the arts”, she says, “And I have thoroughly enjoyed the shows Wine Country Theatre has presented. It is very exciting to support this new non-profit theatre company. It’s a good fit for our ballroom, and a perfect opportunity for our community to enjoy local talent in our space.”
What makes this slightly different from other performances in the ballroom is the fact that Wine Country Theatre is ‘moving in’ to offer a two weekend run of the show. Sets are up, theatrical lights, costume racks, microphones and prop tables line the backstage area. The audience will be seated at large round banquet tables and will be able to enjoy local wines, snacks and desserts during the show. “Creating an intimate, yet casual, audience space lends itself to this show,” says Anthony. “It is a humorous look at the trials and joys of love, marriage, dating, and all manner of relationships. With the beautiful grand piano on stage and the terrific talent, audiences will feel more like they are at a party, enjoying, laughing and sharing the funny and poignant scenes and songs of this hit musical.”
Anthony describes the relationship between the show and its venue as a “Perfect marriage!” “We are so grateful for Debbie Lorenz’ vision, support and commitment to the arts. Obviously she is passionate, as evidenced by the plans to develop the Center for the Performing Arts on the old Hayward Lumber property. But Debbie doesn’t wait for things to happen….she’s supporting theatre now, by allowing us to perform in the Park Ballroom for a very reasonable cost. There’s a lot of love here. For the community, the arts, the wine, the downtown, and the future of Paso Robles.”

Show dates are Friday, November 21, Saturday, November 22, Sunday November 23 and Saturday, November 29. Friday and Saturday evening shows are at 7:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday matinees are at 2:00 pm. The general admission tickets are $25/$15 for students. The Park Ballroom opens one hour prior to each performance.
