Winners of Halloween Costume Contest announced

The Paso Robles Daily News recently sponsored a Halloween Costume Contest. Judging was based 50 percent on the overall scariness or cuteness, 25 percent on the originality of the costume, and 25 percent on the story behind the costume. Thank you to the many entrees we received. Here are the winners:

Little Stinker

Grand prize winner

Anna Martinez is the Grand prize winner with her photo of her “little stinker.” “I fell in love with this costume when I saw it she is my little stinker and always getting into things especially because she just started walking,” she said. “This picture was taken at the Zoo Boo in Atascadero and everyone loved her costume and stopped us to comment on this cute skunk costume and it reminds me of the book I Love You Stinky Face.” She wins a $100 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Camila

2nd place

Josy Aquilar takes 2nd place with her hot doggy costume. “This is Camila she is one year old. “My idea came when everyone says she is just big enough for a hot dog! Hopefully no one will confuse her tonight and try to eat her,” she said. She wins a $50 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Winners of costume contest

3rd place

Mari Anguay takes third place for her little butterfly. “Here is Catalina as the Beautiful Butterfly from The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” she said. “We chose this costume for my 1-year-old for this Halloween since last year she was The Very Hungry Caterpillar for her first Halloween as you can see in my profile pic. I made her costume from scratch with stuff we already had around the house. I had to make my own pattern for the body and wings. I made the body from fleece and used scraps of fabric that I pieced together sort of like a quilt. I made these to fit over a pair of wire wings we already had. I also made her cap out of a t-shirt and wire and pom poms for the antennae. This costume is very fitting for her as she was born premature and like The Very Hungry Caterpillar has grown so much into a Beautiful Butterfly. She got lots of Oooohs and Awwwes at the Paso Robles Down Town Trick or Treat!” She wins a $25 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Bridget-Chilcoat-McCoy

Runner up

Bridget Chilcoat McCoy wins runner up with her “A UPS Family” photo. Though light on description, the judges like the creative family theme and decorated truck included. She wins a $25 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Note to winners: Gift certificates are available for pick up at our office – Access Publishing, 607 Creston Road, Paso Robles, CA 93446.
