Woman loses control of her car, hit by big rig
At about 2:41 Tuesday afternoon a woman driving northbound in the fast lane of Highway 101 just north of Vineyard Drive lost control of her vehicle and was hit when she swerved in front of a big rig, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol. She suffered minor injuries including laceration to her face.
For undetermined reasons, Tiffany Moraga, 32, of Fresno allowed her vehicle to drift onto the center median. As a result, she made a hard right turn in an attempt to steer her vehicle back into her lane, but subsequently lost control of the vehicle, a 2006 Nissan Altima, and traveled across both northbound lanes directly into the path of a big rig which had been traveling in the slow lane, the report said.
The truck driver, Mauricio Ramirez, 37, of Santa Maria, was unable to avoid the Nissan and the two vehicles collided. The Nissan continued onto the right shoulder and up an embankment where it came to rest. The driver of the Nissan, Moraga, sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. Her 3-year-old daughter was properly restrained in a child safety seat and was uninjured in the collision.
The driver of the big rig, Ramirez, was also uninjured. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Alcohol and drug use are not believed to have contributed to this collision.
